Collection: Shakyamuni Buddha
Shakya-muni can be broken down into two words. 1) Shakya, “the one who is capable”. 2) Muni in Pali language means “to know” and also “monk”. Therefore, the basic Shakyamuni Buddha meaning is “omniscient one”.
“Buddha” in Pali (Middle Indo-Aryan liturgical language native to the Indian subcontinent) means “the Enlightened one”. Therefore, the words “Shakyamuni” and “Buddha” could be considered synonyms.
